Telehealth Flexibilities Expire for Medicare — MassHealth Holds Steady (for Now)

Telehealth Flexibilities Expire for Medicare — MassHealth Holds Steady (for Now)

Federal authority lapsed at midnight, but MassHealth confirms continued telehealth access for its members.

As of 12:00 a.m. today, the federal authorization for Medicare home health and hospice telehealth flexibilities expired when government funding lapsed overnight.

➡️ However, MassHealth has confirmed to the Home Care Alliance this morning that it will continue allowing telehealth flexibilities for MassHealth members—for now.

MassHealth’s decision reflects the expectation that both proposals to reopen the federal government include an extension of these telehealth provisions. If future funding bills remove the extension, MassHealth has indicated it would end this allowance.

The Alliance is seeking further clarification from MassHealth on various scenarios and will continue to keep members informed as Congress debates reopening the government and the future of telehealth use for home health and hospice providers.
